Wagoe
Chalets are situated on Wagoe farm which is approximately
570 kilometers north of Perth, Western Australia, and
20 kilometers south of the coastal resort town of Kalbarri. Wagoe
is named after a dingo hunter by the name of Johnny
Wagoe.
The farm is used to run cattle and sheep.
In 1996 the "goat" track that led to Wagoe
was bitumised all the way to the front gate of Wagoe
Farm.
You can now drive a regular vehicle ( non 4wd ) all
the way up to the homestead, camping area's and famous
chalets.
You will however need a 4wd from this point on to access
the fantastic wagoe beach and coastline.
Wagoe
Reef has long been legendary amongst beach and reef
fishermen for its Tailor and Mulloway. The growing popularity
in "Ballooning" off the beach to hook into
the Spanish Mackerel and Tuna that frequent out the
back reaches has steadily grown over the last few years.
With
good deep water directly off Wagoe Beach it is the perfect
location for reef fishing.
Wagoe is a fishing
mecca of white sandy beaches dotted with dark patches
of rock.
Behind are pristine sand dunes where the wind induced
ripples in the surface retain their perfect symmetry.
Early morning, or late afternoon when the soft light
emphasizes the ripples, is the perfect time for the
taking of photographs or video.
Even if fishing is not your passion,
stroll along the beach, spend some time observing the
marine wildlife, explore the dune systems, or simply
sit and admire the views.
Watch
the waves crashing into the shores, or witness the day
to day ebbs and flows of farm life on Wagoe farm itself.
In
1983 Ted purchased the chalets from the now removed
Riverview Caravan park in Kalbarri and, piece by piece,
he transported them on the back of his trusty old Toyota
Hilux and trucked the lot back to Wagoe Farm to reassemble
them where they stand today.
At that time there were no good roads into the area
and no power for the tools needed to put the chalets
back together again.
Ted relied on portable generators for all power requirements.
Easter
time 1983 Ted and Jenny hired a large generator to power
the then 5 chalets fridges and lighting. The chalets
proved so popular that another two were purchased and
erected along with a large camping area including ablution
block. The state power supply was finally commissioned
in 1983 to supply electricity to the farm, chalets,
and camping area.
Dolphins
- Seals - and even Whales all cruise along the edge
of the reef.
You can sit and relax on the verandah of your chalet
and watch the sun set over the indian ocean and watch
the whales pass by on their long migration or simply
take it easy in the peaceful environment and recharge
your batteries.
Ted
and Jenny McClintock leased the farm from Ted's father
who purchased the property in 1974.
Ted
then purchased the farm from his father in 1987.
The farm size is 800 hectares.
The
Chalets are situated on a hill in the Wagoe farm overlooking
Wagoe beach.
The
distance to the beach from the Chalets is 1.5 kilometers.
All
chalets are self contained with their own toilet and
shower with hot water system.
The
only thing you need to bring with you is your linen,
blankets and towels. the chalets all have crockery,
cutlery, pots and pans to cook with.
There are B.B.Q. facilities supplied and come with firewood
for you to use.
Each
chalet has a full size gas stove and a full size fridge/freezer.
There is a large separate freezer in each chalet for
hire if you need to use them.
The
small chalets are two bedroom and the larger chalets
have three bedrooms.
You need to bring all foods and refreshments with you
or a quick trip to Kalbarri is only 20 minutes away.
The water at the chalets is drinkable.
Some
C.D.M.A. Mobile phones work but generally the mobile
phone coverage does not cover Wagoe.
There
are no firearms allowed at Wagoe and no dogs are allowed
as we are a working farm with stock near the chalets.
You
will need a 4WD to drive to the beach from the chalets.
Visitors
staying at the chalets are supplied a key which will
open the gates that lead to the beach.
Non visitors to Wagoe are not allowed to access the
beach.
We
also supply a large camping area for caravans and tents
with powered and
unpowered sites.
The
camping area has an ablution block with hot showers.
There is also a shed with benches and sinks to clean
up the catch.

or farm. They can be ridden on the main track that leads
to the beach and, along the beach itself .
